TRS Service Technician II
Job Summary
The TRS Service Technician II is responsible for the inspection, installation, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of Tubular Running Services (TRS) equipment at client drilling and workover locations. The role ensures all TRS operations are performed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with operational procedures and HSE standards. The technician supports rig-up/rig-down activities, equipment functionality, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance to ensure reliable tubular running operations.
Duties & Responsibilities
Below are the main responsibilities and tasks:
1. Perform pre-job inspection and function tests on TRS equipment
- Power tongs and backup tongs
- Torque-turn monitoring systems
- Elevators, slips, spiders, safety clamps, stabbing guides, etc.
2. Ensure all lifting equipment is inspected and fit for use (slings, shackles, spreader bars).
3. Perform rig-up of TRS equipment on rig floor
4. Position and secure power tong / backup
5. Install torque-turn system and sensors
6. Set up hydraulic/pneumatic power packs and control panels
7. Route and secure hoses and cables to avoid trip and dropped-object hazards
8. After job completion, rig-down, clean, and prepare equipment for backload
9. Operate or oversee operation of power tongs (casing/tubing)
10. Assist in troubleshooting problem connections (e.g., cross‑threaded, high torque, damaged threads).
11. Enforce safe work practices: hands-clear zones, red zones, lockout/tagout where applicable.
12. Stop work when unsafe conditions or deviations from procedure are observed
13. Perform routine maintenance (daily, weekly, pre- and post-job)
- Lubrication of moving parts
- Check for leaks, cracks, worn hoses, and damaged connectors
- Replace worn dies, seals, and consumables
- Report and log equipment damage, malfunctions, or nonconformances
Education Requirements
- Diploma or Associate Degree in Petroleum Engineering and Engineering, or a related technical discipline preferred
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 2–4 years of hands-on field experience in Tubular Running Services (TRS), casing running, or related oilfield service operations
- Experience with:
- Power tongs and backup systems
- Torque-turn monitoring systems
- Hydraulic and pneumatic systems
- Jam unit operations
- Familiarity with TRS, drilling rig operational procedures and safety protocols
Required Skills & Competencies
- Strong mechanical troubleshooting skills
- Ability to interpret technical manuals and operational procedures
- Knowledge of torque-turn software and monitoring systems
- Strong understanding of HSE compliance and safe work practices
- Ability to work under pressure in field environments
- Good communication and teamwork skills
